Our Commitment
At Wells Electronics Ltd, we are deeply committed to environmentally responsible disposal and recycling of projector and audiovisual equipment. We adhere strictly to the WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations, which govern the disposal of electronic waste in the United Kingdom and European Union. Our commitment extends beyond mere compliance; we actively seek to minimise the environmental impact of electronic waste by maximising the recovery and reuse of materials from end-of-life equipment. We believe that responsible recycling is not just a legal obligation but a moral responsibility to future generations.
Free Recycling Service
We offer a completely free recycling service for Barco projectors and associated equipment that has reached the end of its useful life. This service is available to all our customers regardless of whether they have used our repair services. We accept the following items for recycling: projector bodies and chassis, lamps (both xenon and laser types), power supply units, projection lenses and optical blocks, control boards and processing electronics, cooling systems and fans, cables, mounts, and accessories. There is no charge for this service, and we can arrange collection from your premises at a time that is convenient for you.
What We Recycle
Our recycling programme accepts a comprehensive range of Barco equipment and components, including but not limited to: Barco cinema projectors from all series including DP, SP, and Flagship models, Barco event and rental projectors from the UDX, UDM, and HDX ranges, Barco simulation projectors used in training and virtual reality applications, Barco residential and home cinema projectors, xenon and laser light source modules, optical components such as prisms, lenses, and filters, electronic circuit boards and control modules, interconnect cables and power leads, and mounting hardware and rigging accessories. If you have equipment not listed here, please contact us to discuss whether we can accept it for recycling.
WEEE Compliance
Wells Electronics Ltd is registered with the Environment Agency as an approved WEEE treatment facility. All our recycling processes meet or exceed UK and EU environmental standards for the handling and processing of waste electrical and electronic equipment. We maintain detailed records of all equipment received for recycling and provide full traceability throughout the recycling chain. Our facility is regularly audited to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and our staff are trained in the safe handling of potentially hazardous materials commonly found in electronic equipment. We work closely with licensed waste carriers and specialist recycling partners to ensure that every component is processed in the most environmentally appropriate manner.
The Recycling Process
Our recycling process is designed to maximise material recovery and minimise environmental impact. When equipment arrives at our facility, it is first logged and assessed. The dismantling process then begins in our secure facility, where trained technicians carefully separate the equipment into its constituent materials. Hazardous materials such as mercury from lamps and lead from solder are identified and separated for specialist treatment at licensed hazardous waste facilities. Metals including aluminium, steel, and copper are recovered and sent to approved smelting facilities for reuse in new products. Plastics are sorted by type and sent for recycling into new plastic products. Precious metals including gold, silver, and palladium are recovered from circuit boards through specialised refining processes. Any components that can be refurbished and reused are tested and made available as spare parts, further extending their useful life.
Collection
We offer flexible collection options for end-of-life equipment. If we are already visiting your premises for a service call, we can collect recycling at the same time at no additional cost. Alternatively, we can arrange a dedicated collection specifically for recycling purposes. For customers in the UK mainland, we offer periodic collection runs where we combine multiple pickups to minimise the carbon footprint of transportation. For Ireland, collections are coordinated through our Dublin service centre. EMEA clients should contact us to discuss recycling arrangements in their region, as we work with a network of approved partners across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to provide local recycling solutions.
Certificate of Recycling
Upon request, we provide a formal Certificate of Destruction and Recycling for audit and compliance purposes. This certificate certifies that your equipment has been disposed of in accordance with the WEEE regulations and provides a detailed record of the equipment processed, including make, model, serial number, and date of recycling. This documentation is particularly valuable for businesses that need to demonstrate compliance with environmental regulations, satisfy corporate social responsibility requirements, or maintain records for ISO 14001 environmental management systems. The certificate is provided electronically in PDF format and can be issued for individual items or batch collections.
